Jelena Salmi is a postdoctoral researcher working at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. She currently works in the project Sustainable Livelihoods and Politics at the Margins: Environmental Displacement in South Asia funded by the Academy of Finland. Jelena is an anthropologist interested in how abstract, difficult-to-grasp phenomena such as climate change, the state, and oceanic plastic become known to people through material objects, discourses, and sensory experiences. Working also as a freelance graphic designer, she enjoys merging anthropology with art. Jelena has fieldwork experience in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh in India.
